Many football fans hold the opinion that college football is more interesting than the NFL. This choice can obviously be formed by a number of variables, but one of them most certainly has to be the variety of looks a team can sport each season. The NFL has so many rules agains helmets and number of uniforms available per year, that it makes it impossible for franchises to break the mold.
In this article we will be ranking the 6 best and most realistic uniform concepts on the internet today. Each design can be found on the sportslogos.net forums.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay is not long removed from their last uniform redesign where they added horrendous digital alarm clock style numbers and grayish colored shoulder patches. The look was certainly a bold move, but the uniforms don’t feel like they belong to the Bucs as much as they look like a robot’s uniforms.
The first and most important aspect of this uniform concept is the implementation of the Buccaneeresque numbers on the jerseys. They just look right. The second best change to these is the removal of the grayish shoulder patches, and instead, one unified jersey color. These uniforms would look very natural at Raymond James Stadium on Sundays.
5. Denver Broncos
The Broncos make this list because their current uniforms aren’t horrible, these concepts are just better. The current uniforms in Denver employ too much early 2000’s extravagant striping, but keep their colors together well.
This concept relies heavily on the Color Rush uniforms released earlier this year for the Broncos. The uniforms went off without a hitch during their Thursday Night Football Game and were fan favorites. Making each of the jerseys the same design would be the best look the broncos have sported in over a decade. There is not much else to say about this concept, other than simplicity is sometimes best.
4. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have sported powder blue jerseys just twice a year for as long as we can remember, and fans absolutely love them. However, the team can’t seem to pull the trigger on making them their full time digs over the traditional navy blue uniforms.
This concept is so appealing because it does exactly that. In fact, it not only makes the powder blues primary, but scraps the navy blue design all together. This moves gives the uniforms a much lighter feel to them and makes it easier to implement yellow into the numbers, pants and facemasks. If LA would consider changes of this magnitude for the flashy style of their city, we could see some of the nicest uniforms in the NFL.
3. New York Jets
The placement of the Jets on this list, once again lies in the fact that their current uniforms aren’t ugly, just old. The design in New York has been used by the Jets since 1998 and feels like they’ve been around much longer. It’s time for a change Gang Green.
This concept catches the eye because it implements their current hunter green, with their light green of the past. A move that would be a hit among Jets fans who have been there for it all. The concept is also unique because it combines the use of both greens next to each other, making the shoulder and helmet striping the focal point of the entire uniform. If you’re reading this Woody Johnson, its time to make a change.
2. Los Angeles Rams
This spot is technically cheating for the Rams design, because the navy and white concept is likely the future look in LA. With that being said, they are absolutely gorgeous. The simple two color look is as crisp and clean as it gets.
The reason we could stomach putting this concept so high on our list, is because we believe the ‘Greatest Show on Turf’ throwbacks could still be worn twice a season, even after the current changes. Pictured in the second row, these uniforms would pay great homage to the greatest successes achieved by Kurt Warner and the boys. If used together, the LA Rams could have the flashiest selection of uniforms in sports history.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
How can you possibly top the praise given to the LA Rams for their vast selection you ask? Look no further than the sweet, sweet kelly green uniforms from 1995. This spot was earned because Philadelphia represents a perfect storm of hideous midnight green and black uniforms that they currently wear with the outstanding redesign of a classic throwback.
This concept is truly timeless and shows the pure essence of the Eagles. Kelly green runs deep through the veins of Philadelphians and bringing it back would energize the fans even more than they already are. Worn by the Eagles as a throwback in 2012, similar uniforms were a smash hit and fans have been calling for them to replace their primary uniforms ever since. These uniforms would be the best in the NFL, hands down.
